Precipitate Lab Sets

Here are the chemicals for the lab tomorrow. You need to split them up into the ions they are composed of. For example:

Ba(NO3)2 is composed of Ba2+ and 2 NO3-. Determine the pairs of ions for each chemical so you are prepared to just fill in your data tables and begin working tomorrow.

Chromatography Lab, Day 2

Today we took measurements and calculated Rf for our pigments. Lab books were turned back in at the end of class.

Reminder! There is a WebAssign up that’s due next Tuesday! You can do questions 4, 5,  and 8 now based on what we have covered in class so far. The remainder of the assignment will be based on what we discuss over the next few days.

Unit 2 test on Wednesday 10/7!

Chromatography Lab

Did a paper chromatography lab with common food colorings – although some teams got fun neon colors! Today we performed the experiment and left the strips to dry overnight; tomorrow we will take measurements and complete the lab analysis. The lab will be due at the end of the period tomorrow.

How Big is a Molecule Part Deux

Worked on Molecule lab calculations in class today – whatever didn’t get completed is due tomorrow!

Tips to remember:

  • Be sure to note what kind of graduated cylinder you used, we have 2 different kinds and they have different precision!
  • Use your scientific notation function on your calculator (EE or EXP button)…or you’ll end up with the wrong answers!
